Ontario East – where the investment opportunities come naturally
With its magnificent waterways and emerald islands, rocky highlands and rolling hills, soaring sand dunes and dense forests, Ontario East is a wonderment, offering something for every kind of traveler.
And with much of it still waiting to be developed, Ontario East presents a unique opportunity for tourism investors.
“Ontario East is ripe for investment,” says Brenda Otto, Chair of the Tourism Investment Sector Team for the Ontario East Economic Development Commission, who notes that the region is anchored by Canada’s sophisticated capital city of Ottawa and accessible by way of a well-developed network of roads, rail lines and an international airport.
“We’re looking for investors interested in developing culinary and wine products, eco-tourism adventures, heritage sites, recreation attractions, accommodations, shoreline services – the whole gamut,” says Otto.
And Ontario East has done the groundwork by developing an investment-ready workbook for communities that helps match investors with opportunities.
There are also government programs to tap into, including the $80 million Eastern Ontario Development Fund and the $10 million Eastern Ontario Development Program.
“We know we have the potential to become a great global destination,” says Otto, “but to succeed, we need serious tourism investors which is why we’re working to become a model for tourism investment readiness.”
