In conversation with Mylisa Henderson Owner, Spa le Scandinave Blue Mountain
Q. Why is your project a model for other tourism investors?
A. Blue Mountain is Ontario’s ski capital in winter and great for golf during the summer, so it fit our business model for a year-round spa. Our baths are designed to be spacious yet intimate in a natural setting. We are a popular destination for clients retreating from the conference centre and we don’t require reservations so leisure travelers and weekenders can be spontaneous and work us into their plans.
Q. Why did you locate here?
A. Our partners were based in Calgary, and we were in Boston. We saw lots of opportunity here because of the Intrawest development at Blue Mountain and we loved the opportunity. So we secured a relationship with le Scandinave business in Mont Tremblant, and invested $7 million in this region.
Q. What key development areas are on your list for next steps?
A. Investors are attracted by this region’s year round attractions. There’s never a shortage of activities. Any investment in adventure tourism will certainly work in the region.
