In Partnership With...The Innovative Muskoka Wharf

Gravenhurst's historic waterfront has been recreated as the Muskoka Wharf, a $170 million, 89-acre development celebrating the unique and colourful history of Ontario's premier vacation playground.
The project is the result of significant partnerships between the private sector and the local community, with an additional $30 million in government investment from the Ontario and federal governments.
Carolyn Tripp, former site manager for the town of Gravenhurst, says the wharf project is a key catalyst for new development in the region.
“It’s had a huge impact on other investors,” says Ms. Tripp. “It unlocked some pent-up demand, and started other residential and hotel development that would not have started as quickly without the impetus of the wharf.”
The Muskoka Wharf has become a tourism destination by combining heritage facilities, shops and restaurants, a Marriott Residence Inn, and the home port of the Muskoka Steamships. It is also Ontario's newest premier event site, hosting the popular Gravenhurst Farmer's Market on Wednesdays, the Antique and Classic Boat Show in July and the Dockside Festival of the Arts in August.
The visitor rates for the Muskoka Steamships rise annually, and the largest increase in recent interest has been in the steamships’ overnight tours.
“The project combines retail, accommodation, restaurants, and areas of historical interest in a dynamic new location,” said Marg French, the economic development officer from the district of Muskoka.
The wharf’s boardwalk also offers scenic views, a nature trail, prime fishing spots, and a wide selection of shops and restaurants.
