Eagle Canyon Adventures

Eagle CanyonForty minutes east of Thunder Bay by car lies Eagle Canyon. It’s a wonder of nature,  with sheer granite cliffs that drop 200 feet to a narrow ravine, parts of which never see daylight, and it’s a haven for all sorts of birds, animals and plant life.

In 2000, entrepreneurs Herve and Jimmy Hamel decided to turn it into an all-season eco adventure destination. In summer, visitors can explore the canyon floor and walk high above it on two suspension bridges, one of them the longest in Canada. In winter, when it transforms into a wall of ice, the canyon becomes a destination for ice climbers.

"Eagle Canyon is a prime example of a unique eco tourism experience that travelers are looking for and that the region's stunning geography provides a foundation for," says Paul Pepe, Manager of Tourism for Thunder Bay.
