Investment Opportunity
The city of Thunder Bay is about to launch its $126 million waterfront redevelopment. It promises to transform the face and economy of Northwestern Ontario’s capital city – and attract new investment to the region.
The 60-acre project, which includes nearly 4,000 metres (13,000+ feet) of shoreline, will be completed in three phases. The first, which is in the formal development proposal stage, is called Prince Arthur’s Landing and entails construction of a boutique hotel, condominiums, commercial and recreation space. Phases 2 and 3, which are upcoming and seeking private sector investors, involve development of a 300-slip marina and redevelopment of a 25-acre former industrial site.
"The City's team of architects, engineers and designers are busy preparing the detailed design drawings and tender for the first stage of construction that will begin this year (2009)," says Katherine Dugmore, Waterfront Project Manager. "This work will put in place the necessary infrastructure to support the mixed use development that will be undertaken by a private sector partner and the range of public uses being developed by the City. In the next few weeks, the City will be releasing a request for expressions of interest for partners in whole or part of its proposed 300 slip marina, a marina services building and ancillary uses. We are looking forward to discussing this and other exciting opportunities on our waterfront with potential investors."
